An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is exactly what it says it is: a precious landscape with a distinctive character and natural beauty so outstanding that it is in the nation's interest to safeguard it. There are 46 AONBs in England, Wales and N. Ireland.
The Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Trust’s area are:
and a small part of the Sperrins AONB
The Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust is governed by a board of 14 directors representing Local Authority; tourism; farming; educational, environmental and community sectors and an expert team of advisers and observers.
As part of our AONB Raising Awareness programme CCGHT has created and updated an interactive, educational and visually engaging website.www.ccght.org
The Trust produces a wide range of illustrated newsletters, posters, postcards, topic guidelines on the heritage of the area including: • Causeway Coast Natural Heritage Site Directory • Colours of the Causeway – a flora guide for the Causeway Coast AONB • Life in the Sea off the Antrim Coast – a marine guide for the Antrim Coast & Glens AONB • Birds of Binevenagh- a bird-life guide for Binevenagh AONB • Finn’s Gallery – a photographic trail through the Causeway Coast AONB • The Glens through the Lens – a collection of images from the Antrim Coast & Glens AONB
Sustainable development/tourism is part of our remit and we have achieved the European Sustainable Tourism Charter across the 3 AONBs.
CCGHT is involved in a new, exciting and innovative sustainable tourism project entitled ÉCONOMUSÉE. Local, skilled craft artisans open their doors to visitors and allow tourists to watch them at work, learn about the traditional skills and techniques involved in making their craft and encourages economic growth locally.
CCGHT supports the principles of Leave No Trace
